Calibrating BD Strategies to the Economy
September 27, 2022
Despite news that we’re heading into an economic recession, and two quarterly declines in the GDP, most law firms continue to see strong client demand. This paradox may bolster overconfidence at firms that do not have a contingency plan, leaving them underprepared for inevitable market corrections.
In this program, a panel of law firm BD executives share their thoughts on where the marketplace is headed, how their firms are preparing for the future, and how their lawyers are investing their non-billable time as we continue to navigate economic uncertainty. Specifically, we will explore:
- What should law firms be thinking about as markets continue to decline?
- What BD lessons from the 2008 recession can we apply in the months ahead?
- Which BD tactics will emerge in a hybrid, post-pandemic environment?
- How can lawyers adopt more proactive BD strategies, calibrated to emerging economic conditions?
David Ackert facilitates a panel of law firm BD leaders: Michelle Murray (Shearman & Sterling), Jenna Schiappacasse (Jenner & Block), and Barbara Malin (Jackson Walker).
